This is the REAL Bali!

If you want some REAL Bali - this is IT! Enjoy SunsetSala in Sudaji Village...

In the unspoilt NORTH of beautiful Bali lies the traditional village of SUDAJI, near Singaraja. And nesting in the rice fields lies SUNSETSALA - a really fabulous location with delightful houses for you to enjoy! Located on 3,000 sq. metres there are three houses to enjoy. You are welcome to rent one or all for a larger group of up to 10 people. Sunsets divine.

Air Saneh is 20 minutes drive east. Lovina 25 minutes drive to the west. Menenjangan Island for snorkeling or diving (best in Bali) is 1.5 hours away.

SunsetSala - named after the stunning sunsets you see from the teak house (Gladak) - is a little bit of heaven!

If you could imagine a divine place to stay in Bali - this is IT!

A traditional Balinese village in north Bali (turn right at Singaraja instead of left to Lovina).

No Coffee shops, no dress shops, no restaurants, no hawkers - just lots of smiling people saying hello!

Living Freedom

Choose from 4 different houses to stay in.

Sekempul waterfalls, stunning, are just 15 minutes drive from Sunsetsala.

About Us

Sunsets are really special here. Did we mention that we have uninterrupted views and the surrounds are pristine countryside?

There is a fully equipped separate kitchen on the layer above the houses. Cook your lunch or dinner or go to local warung (1km) or ask Ibu Ayu to cook Indonesian food. Menu is available. Yes it costs more than a warung but she has to shop at market, prepare the meal and cook it especially for you - still cheap - under 100,000rp per person.

You can't drive a car to Sunsetsala car park - closest stop is the local temple "Pura Masphit" about 150m away. After that it's on foot or for the brave - a motorbike!

All you can hear at night is the frogs and sometimes chanting.

All you can hear during the day is farmers going to work and kids calling out - Hello!

The local schools welcome visitors - call Pak Gede Jonny - and he will come around and take you

There is no air-conditioning or fans - not needed - natural living. In fact you will often need a blanket (supplied).

You can hire SunSetSala's Scoopy motorbike (if you can ride already, otherwise not a good idea, especially as I built the path and its only 1 metre wide!) and take yourself around the area.

There is a car and driver in Sudaji to hire.

There is a standard fridge so feel free to use it.

Welcome to go to local market "pasar" (open 4am to 730am) and look around and buy fresh! Enjoy the locals - of course they charge you a little more... it is still very cheap!

Cooking Class - learn how to cook 3 Indonesian dishes from a local lady.. and eat your delicious food. Recipe book included $30

Located on 3,000 sq. metres there are FOUR separate houses for you to enjoy. You are welcome to rent one or all for a larger group of up to 10 people.

There is a fully equipped Kitchen/dining area, separate from the houses. The excellent staff Ibu Ayu and Ibu Mangku will prepare your breakfast (included) or dinner here OR you are welcome to use the kitchen to cook your own meals.

This place is truly something else. If you are looking for that authentic Bali experience, then Ubud is not the place to be, this is. It has a really serene and peaceful atmosphere and is nestled around some lush green rice fields where the stars shine brightly at night.

The hosts were incredibly attentive and considerate, and the food they prepared was also excellent. A highlight for us was having a cleansing ceremony, seeing the beautiful local Sekumpul and Fiji waterfalls, as well as having a massage on the veranda while it was raining outside - so relaxing.

We certainly hope to come back one day as this was the highlight of our trip.

Where should we start?!? This place is just amazing... we were lucky that the staff were there during our stay and shared their knowledge about the balinese with us.

They have built three beautiful little houses in the middle of paradise. The view from the veranda is breathtaking over rice terasses and palmtree forests. During the night you can sit outside and count shooting stars.

Our hosts, Ibu Ayu and Ibu Mangku, were very easy to communicate with and they also took us to a local ceremony which was an awesome experience. The house and the two Ibus provide everything you can ask for. For Wifi addicts - get an Indonesian Sim-Card beforehand for around 7 dollars that will provide you with Internet. We used a third cellphone as hotspot all the time and it worked just fine.

Sudaji is really small and you will be in touch with the traditional bali. We really appreciated the free drinking water and Ibu Ayus food for dinner was delicious.

We were also taken to Sekumpul waterfall which is worth a visit. Entrance is 15k per pax. If you are young and fit, you can easily do it without a guide. We decided to walk back from the waterfall to our residence which took us about 1,5 hours through the villages. Really fun and a hello goes a long way with the Balinese here.

If you want to get to know real Bali and have some quality time - a must stay!!!

Thanks Ibu Ayu + Ibu Mangku

We had such an amazing time at Sunset Sala. It was beautiful in so many ways: for the house itself which clearly has been decorated with so much love and care, to the surrounding village and country side, and (most important) to the people who have taken such good care of us. Ibu Ayu and Ibu Mangku made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The food was delicious and so fresh, I was so excited to wake up for breakfast. My husband and I loved the waterfall and had a lovely swim. We will remember Sunset Sala for a long time - and hope to make it back here one day!

Thank you Ibu Ayu and Ibu Mangku!

Even though I stayed just for two nights, it was perfect. I needed a place away from tourist and busy life. I guess I found a perfect spot for that :). I will certainly come back again. Ibu Ayu and Mangku are wonderful, althougth I needed to get used to the fact that they were in the house once in the while. As I like to be by myself especially in the morning. But all went well, they took such good care of me.

It is a beautiful gem, this house. And the bed is like a princess bed. I loved it!!

Take care everyone, and see you next time!

Sunset Sala was the first place on our 3-months-trip through Asia. What a wonderful place to start our journey! Thank you for sharing this bit of heaven and giving us the opportunity to stay even two days longer than planned.
Ibu Ayu and Ibu Mangku cared wonderfully for us and the freshly cooked food was amazing. The gazebo was the perfect surrounding for our daily practise - we loved staying there for sunset and sunrise. Thank you also Pak Mangku for doing the cleansing ceremony at the holy water.

Thank you so much for having us stay. There is a sense of serenity at this place, a gentleness and quietness that is good for the soul. I have one more night, but my highlights so far are:

-Trip to the waterfall where I got to sit in the flow of springwater surrounded by a rainbow.
-The amazing Hindu ceremony, and feeling very much a part of the community on a very special full moon.
-The love, care, and attention that we received from IBU AYU and IBU MANGKU. Such beautiful ladies!
-The stories of village life!

Thank you for opening your house to us! XX00

Thank you for having me at your beautiful “Sunsetsala”. Everywhere I look I see beauty and feel healing energy. Ibu Ayu and Ibu Mangku have been so welcoming and warm-hearted. Ibu Mankgu’s English is so much better than that of many in Canguu and we have been having lots of wonderful conversations about ceremonies, ancestry, education, and more.

The food is superb! Healthy and appetising. Last night I had the best sleep in your comfortable bed. I had wonderful dreams and feel very, very, rested. All the villagers I’ve met have welcomed me warmly with their smiles and gestures: made me feel like an honoured guest/queen.

Last night after sunset I saw meteor showers lighting up the sky. This is truly a place of peace and healing. I must come back.

Thank you again and love and blessings, XX, “SUKSMA”.

What a spectacular location and house. We had huge wind and storm which added to the drama of the place. I love Sudaji and its rustic natural beauty, Ibu Ayu is a lovely host and Ibu Mangku was great. I went to the river and had ceremony. I will tell lots of people about Sudaji. There is potential for bushwalking and motorbike trips in the hills. Thank you. Matur Suksama.

Thank you Ibu Mangku and Ibu Ayu for such an amazing time! I enjoyed every minute. Such warm hospitality and beautiful surroundings. I will definitely be coming back. I really enjoyed the trips to the market, the waterfall hike, and the cleansing ceremony. Thank you for making my vacation so special and for making me feel so welcome. I will try to get all the spices that we bought at the market past customs - hopefully I can make Balinese food half as good as Ibu Ayu. Let’s stay in touch over email. I will miss you,

Thank you for sharing this place with us, it was the best holiday we ever had. I’m so glad we found the Gazebo via AirBnb because this place has become so special to us.

Ibu Ayu, Ibu Mangku, Pak and Sinta were always so nice and lovely. Such a kind family.

Pak showed us the river and the waterfalls and did a cleansisng ceremony with us. It felt like we were staying with old friends. Ibu Ayu and Ibu Mangku prepared the most amazing dinners and treated us like we were a prince and princess.

I will never forget the house, the village, and the wonderful people. I hope I can come back here one day.

We stayed a couple of days in this fantastic place up in the North of Bali, a highlight of our Bali stay and truly a Bali gem as it is a whole different experience than we found elsewhere. The 2-3 hour drive up there is already a great pleasure as soon as you leave the busy roads of Kuta and Denpasar as there is so much to see. We drove through the Bali landscapes to the North coast amazed by all the different colours of green. Monkeys sitting next to the road, volcanos, fruit stales (lychees, strawberries everywhere), rivers and big crater/volcano lakes where we stopped for a nice meal. Sudaji is a tiny village up in the mountains were the locals do not see any tourists, and the house is situated on the outskirts of this village. On arrival we were welcomed by the friendly staff who took our bags from the car to the house and cooked a nice lunch for us. We had an easy walk to the house greeted by the friendly locals who were working on the land.

The house is made of an old Indonesian style teak wood design, How did you ever manage to get it there?! The house is one nice room with a comfortable big bed and mosquito net, and a colourful outdoor bathroom. Outside one of us was sleeping on the day bed which was as well comfortable and breezy without mosquitos. Thanks to the solar power and batteries we were able to have cold beers, lights in the evening and charge our camera and phone. The best thing about the house is the veranda and space around it where you sit comfortably with a coffee in the morning or some sunset drinks and just admire the views in front of you. The neighbour Pak Mungku took us for a nice walk and showed us his house and huge garden where we could pick many fruits ourselves. Its a five minute walk through the rice paddies to the river below were you can cool off with a dip and swim.

Across the river we climb up again and ended up in a local ceremonie under a big tree which was really special. The staff organised scooter bikes and we went sightseeing (markets, tempels) in the surroundings, went to visit Singaradja were we did shopping in the Carrefour supermarket and we went to Lovina in the early morning on a dolphin cruise. The things we liked most were just sitting around the house and admiring the stunning views. Thanks! Definitely we want to come back to visit your place again and go to the waterfall with Pak Mungku.

Linda and Gert, February

We are very lucky that we have visited this place on earth Sudaji the teakhouse. We arrived in heavy rain! but no problem at all, 3 people waiting for us: Pak Mangku, Ibu Mangku, and Ibi Ayu. These people and all the farming neighbours were so friendly.

We enjoyed the house, views, river. The FOOD from the two cooks. We don’t forget

We were out on the scooty one day, visiting villages: Air Soneh, waterfall. We were out with Kadek to monastry, Bonjour Baths, eat fish on the beach in Terumkalus.

We talked with the ladies.

I cried with the ladies.

But we were very lucky.
